The Birch Bay Water & Sewer District (BBWSD) is located in the northwest corner of Whatcom County and provides direct water service to about 3600 customers. The most recent water system plan was approved by WSDOH in August 2003. There is a considerable amount of recreational activity in this community (many condominiums and second homes) and the summer demand is typically about 3 times the winter demand. The ADD is only 108 gpd per ERU over a 12-month period, which also reflects the part-time use and recreational nature of this community.
